COMPUTER HISTORY

The History of Computers "Who invented the computer?" is not a question with a simple answer. The real answer is that many inventors contributed to the history of computers and that a computer is a complex piece of machinery made up of many parts, each of which can be considered a separate invention. This series covers many of the major milestones in computer history (but not all of them) with a concentration on the history of personal home computers. Computer History Year/Enter-- Inventors/Inventions -- Description of Event 1936 Konrad Zuse - Z1 Computer First freely programmable computer. 1942 John Atanasoff & Clifford Berry ABC Computer Who was first in the computing biz is not always as easy as ABC. 1944 Howard Aiken & Grace Hopper Harvard Mark I Computer The Harvard Mark 1 computer. 1946 John Presper Eckert & John W. How to Choose a CPU.

How to Choose a CPU. So how do you make sense of all the CPUs out there? Obsolete Processors: These would refer to those processors which were around 5 or more years ago. They will typically come with older refurnished or budget computer systems. Be very careful if you are purchasing such CPUs as your system's speed will definitely slow to a crawl. Worse still, some software on the market today simply cannot be run using older processors. Budget Processors: Strapped for cash? Consider purchasing CPUs in this category - which include yesterday's top-of-the-line CPUs which have been discontinued or the newer budget CPUs. While you may not get extremely good performance, these CPUs will give you the best bang for your buck. Mid-Range Processors: The CPUs in this category would have been king of the hill just 6 months ago. Due to the entry of newer, faster CPUs, processors will drop in price and become more affordable. These processors will still scream in performance and are very ...

MS VISTA

Image
Windows Vista is the latest release of Microsoft Windows , a line of graphical operating systems used on personal computers , including home and business desktops. Before its announcement on July 22 , 2005 , Vista was known by its codename Longhorn. [1] On November 8 , 2006 , Windows Vista development was completed and released to manufacturing . Over the next two months it was released to MSDN , TechNet Plus and TechNet Direct subscribers, computer hardware and software manufacturers and volume license customers. On January 30 , 2007 , it was released worldwide to the general public, [2] and is available for purchase and downloading from Microsoft's web site. [3] These release dates come more than five years after the release of its predecessor, Windows XP , making it the longest time span between two releases of Windows. According to Microsoft , [4] Windows Vista contains hundreds of new features ; some of the most significant include an updated graphical user interface an...

blu ray

Image
An HD-DVD format that uses a 405 nm -wavelength blue-violet laser technology, in contrast to the 650nm-wavelength red laser technology used in traditional DVD formats. The rewritable Blu-ray disc, with a data transfer rate of 36 Mbps , can hold up to 27 GB of data on a single-sided single layer disc (compared to the traditional DVD’s 4.7GB capacity), which amounts to about 12 hours of standard video or more than 2 hours of high-definition video. The Blu-ray format was developed jointly by Sony, Samsung, Sharp, Thomson, Hitachi, Matsushita, Pioneer and Philips, Mistubishi and LG Electronics. so Blu-ray, also known as Blu-ray Disc (BD), is the name of a next-generation optical disc format jointly developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), a group of the world's leading consumer electronics, personal computer and media manufacturers (including Apple, Dell, Hitachi, HP, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, TDK and Thomson). The format was dev...

OPTICAL DRIVES

Image
OPTICAL DRIVES Optical drives vary greatly in computer systems. When looking at a computer system there are two things to consider: the type of drive and the speeds. Drive Types There are two basic forms of optical storage used in computers today: compact disc (CD) and digital versatile disc (DVD). Compact disc storage was derived from the same media that we use from audio compact discs. They storage space averages around 650 to 700 MB of data per disc. They can contain audio, data or both on the same disc. Most software for computers is distributed on CD formats. DVD was the development for a compact digital video format that also spun off into the data storage arena. DVD is seen primarily for video and not for software distributions. DVD drives are still backwards compatible with CD formats however. Newer high definition optical storage has also become available in the form of Blu-ray and HD-DVD formats. Each of these is capable of storage high def...

RAM'S

Image
RAM also known as (Random access memory) is the best form of computer memory. RAM is called "random access memory" or " volatile memory" because you can access any memory cell directly if you know the row and column that intersect at that cell and nothing can be stored on it as when power is switched off everything is washed off from the memory. The other type of RAM is serial access memory (SAM). SAM stores data as a series of memory cells that can only be accessed sequentially . If the data is not in the current location, each memory cell is checked until the needed data is found. SAM works very well for memory buffers, where the data is normally stored in the order in which it will be used. RAM data, on the other hand, can be accessed in any order. Dynamic RAM Similar to a microprocessor, a memory chip is an integrated circuit (IC) made of millions of transistors and capacitors. In the most common form of computer memory, dynamic random access memory (DRAM), a tr...

PROCESSOR

Image
A processor is the logic circuitry that responds to and processes the basic INSTRUCTIONS that drive a computer. The term processor has generally replaced the term central processing unit (CPU). The processor in a personal computer or embedded in small devices is often called a microprocessor. source

cpu

Image
what is a cpu? CPU stands for Central Processing Unit. There can be several processors in a computer, but one of them is the central one – the CPU.The reason the CPU is called a processor is because it can work with data. And it has two important jobs: 1. It can do calculations. 2. It can move data. The CPU is very fast at doing both jobs. The faster the CPU can do calculations and move data, the faster we say the PC is. There are three ways to improve a PC’s performance: 1. Higher clock frequencies 2. Greater bus width. 3. Optimising the core of the processor and other components so that the maximum amount of work is done for each clock tick.

how it all started

PDA's ,portable computers came out in the mid to late 1980's. they had small keyboard attached with them a small display n basic features like alaram , calendar, calculator etc. They supported games and spreadsheets The Psion Organiser II, released in 1986, was very popular In 1993, Apple introduced the Newton MessagePad.It had electronic notepad, to-do list, calendar, telephone log and address file applications. The original PalmPilot was launched by Palm Computing in March of 1996. The PalmPilot ran for weeks on AAA batteries, was easy to use, and could store thousands of contacts, appointments and notes. A typical PDA: the Hewlett Packard iPAQ Pocket PC.

So what PDA really is? PDA is Personal Digital Assistant which provides the functionality of a cellular phone , web browser personal organiser n more. Input is usually using pen ie they are incorporated with handwriting recognition . It also has voice recognition functionality. PDAs are also called palmtops, hand-held computers and pocket computers.

intel core 2 duo 1

intel core 2 duo processors were launched on 27th July 2006 at Fragapalooza n code named CONROE. they are built on 65nm process n manufactured with 4MB L2 Cache some of the processors available are E6300(1.86Ghz) n E6400(2.13Ghz) with both having 1066 MT/s FSB they have enormous value for overclocking capacities according to a study a 1.86Ghz processor has been overclocked to 3.0Ghz with motherboard supporting high FSB's

core 2 duo tech info

so what is core 2 duo? its an intel technology which is intel core 2 duo which based on intel core microarchitecture what really happens is 1.increase in delivering of instructions per clock cycle thereby decreasing exectuion time n increaing energy efficiency 2.more power efficient performance and more battery life for laptops 3.optimise the use of available data bandwidth 4.more efficient cache subsystem for these processors read on for more info
